Retrospective 1 #Denmark

During these days of lockdown, it has been a great opportunity to go back and reflect on past experiences concerning the business. As I have started to sift through my huge cache of archive material and sort them, it brings back memories of past buying trips around Europe, the excitement of finding things in unusual places ( in the early days not seen on the internet ), meeting new people, great dining ( and drinking ). Then the nerve wracking part of getting them safely to London, the thrill of restoring them and then living with them for a while, before they begin their onward journey. I cannot always remember who bought what, but occasionaly one does remember in great detail, which brings a smile.

This first retrospective brings back fond memories of my Fulham showroom, The HRW building, shared with renowned decorator, Henrietta Spencer Churchill and her team and now alas demolished. It was a large space and perfect for displaying things and hanging large chandeliers above. It was also a place known for its lunches and parties . . . more on that another time. So, I return in my mind to Copenhagen – Some of the friendliest dealers I have met and probably the most expensive lunch ever enjoyed. . . . These are a few of the things I loved buying on that trip. .
